Uniservices from Auckland University attend a Day-Away Team Building Event.
The brief was to run a collaborative art workshop for 64 staff, held over 90 mins at the Sorrento Conference Centre in Mt Eden as a team building exercise with a view to producing a group artwork.
Initially ideas were floated between some of the UniServices staff, the Management team and Sue. The Koru was chosen as a starting point for the artwork with each artist completing a square tile to add to the work.
The format of the work was a series of small canvasses embellished with shell, sand, seeds and copper with the materials arranged in such a way as to indicate the spiral shape from a short distance. Each person chose a tile to work on and as the pieces came together on the table there were gasps of wonder and excitement.
The squares were arranged in a grid pattern, the small works were then installed onto a sheet of perspex and hung about 50mm out from the wall to evoke a sense of floating in space. The completed work has been installed in the board room of their Symonds St offices.
An interesting part of this process is the ability of each piece to contrast and support the work around it, variety is the key. This is achieved along with the sense of community that develops between the staff as they work together.
