Sue can visit your school or holiday programme to deliver innovative art workshops. Art at Work is all about making art together and Sue’s innovative approach is inclusive, supportive and builds on individual strengths and interests.
Art at Work was invited by Sandra Fraser, assistant principal of the Glen Eden Intermediate mini school Karekare, to work with her students on a collaborative art project. This is the school that both our daughters, Georgia and Kirsten attended so I was very excited to be involved.
The plan was to work with 120 pupils from 4 classes on an artwork that reflected their school values and celebrated their ‘mini school’ connection to Karakare. Resources from the area were collected and sorted to provide the raw materials for the project. In the work the mini school logo has been reproduced on a large scale 3000mm x 2000mm, with small canvases set in a grid to bring together the various pupils work. The waka holds the class values and floats over the surface of the canvas, with the silhouette of the off shore island visible in the background. The work was produced during 2 days at the school with the final construction taking place off-site by Glen and myself. A big thank you to Sandra for her enthusiasm and commitment to the project, all the teachers and students who contributed and to Andrew for his expertise in installing the work.
