This year, April 2nd 2017, Art at Work was invited back to the festival to make more flags to add to the growing installation. The day was a great success with children from last year coming to the site and finding their flag.
On the 20th March 2016 we all had the chance to enjoy and celebrate the diverse cultures living in and around Auckland city. The Auckland International Cultural Festival, #aklculturalfest, held in Mt Roskill, is organised and funded by the Auckland Council. This year, Kaiya Irvine from the events team employed Sue from Art at Work to produce 100’s of flags to be worked on at the festival by children and adults. Two weeks before the festival Sue ran a creative workshop with students at Wesley Intermediate and together they produced 50 metres of painted fabric to use as the backgrounds on the flags. The flags will be sewn into bunting and will hang at next years festival to become part of a growing art installation which celebrates the diversity and uniqueness of our global city.
